Karma's a Bitch (or the Lord moves in mysterious ways)

My grandfather's younger brother is an odd bird. Once when my grandfather drove down to his house to visit, he wouldn't even open to door. My grandfather was a bit dejected over that, but he tried again later, and stayed till he came out to chat a bit. There wasn't any bad blood between them, his brother is just odd. When my grandfather broke his hip and was recovering at home, I called to inform them. They never visited. When my grandfather took a turn for the worse, and it was clear it wouldn't make it, I called them again. I spoke with his brother's wife. I told her that if they wanted to see him before he passed they needed to come soon. She rattled off a list of things they had to do and couldn't possible stop by. They never visited. They did show up briefly before the funeral service to view the body and sign the guest book. They were leaving as we drove up. They never spoke to any of the family.
I don't harbor any ill will toward them. They are odd, but family is family. Seems karma has repaid them in kind. The wife suffered a heart attack about a week ago and is still in the hospital. Her husband, my grandfather's brother, was leaving from a visit yesterday and fell and broke his hip in the hospital parking lot. Now they are both there, in different rooms. My mother is planning a visit but no one else has of yet. They never had children, guess that is why the hospital called my mother. Karma's a bitch, ain't it.
